Vana Leebik Kass

Estonian Literal translation English
Mul meeles on üks leebik kass,
kel nimeks Jenny-Täpipai
On leopardilt ta kasukas,
mis tiigrilt juurde triibud sai

Kõik päevad veedab trepi peal
või uksematil nurru lööb
Ta ketrab, ketrab, ketrab seal
Ja see on kõik, mis leebik teeb
See on kõik, mis leebik teeb

Kui...
siginal-saginal majas on lõpp,
siis on leebikul tööd raskelt rabamas käpp
Kui pere sängis on ja und näeb keset ööd,
seob vööle ta vöö, hiilib rügama tööd
Muret kassile teeb hiirte käitumislaad

Hiired kombeid ei tea,
süisa matsid on nad!
Kui vaibal on reastatud rumalad hiired,
ma õpetan muusikat, heegeldust kiirelt

Mul meeles on üks leebik kass,
kel nimeks Jenny-Täpipai
Pitskardinaid ta tuulutab
umbsõlmed sisse neisse seob

Ta põõnab aknalaua peal,
kus ruumi on, seal nurru lööb
Ta ketrab, ketrab, ketrab seal
Ja see on kõik, mis leebik teeb
See on kõik, mis leebik teeb!

Kui...
siginal-saginal majas on lõpp,
siis on leebikul tööd raskelt rabamas käpp
Ta meelest on prussakail suur töönõudlus,
nii asja võib saada laisast räpajõugust
On kamp, kellel malk olnuks parajam palk,

Kolm hurraad, kolm hurraad, kolm hurraad

Tänan, mu head!
I have one gumbie cat in mind
who's name is Jenny-Täpipai
Her coat is from a leopard
which got stripes from a tiger

All her days she spends on the stair
or purrs on the doormat
She spins, spins, spins there
And that's all that a gumbie does
That's all that a gumbie does

When...
the razzmatazz in the house has an end,
then the gumbie's paw is pulled towards hard work
If the family is in bed and dreams in the middle of the night,
she ties her belt on her waist, sneaks away to work away
The mice's behaviour worries the cat

The mice don't know etiquette
they're boors!
When the stupid mice are in a row on the carpet,
I teach music, crocheting quickly

I have one gumbie cat in mind
who's name is Jenny-Täpipai
She airs the lace curtains
ties knots into them

She sleeps on the windowsill
where there's room, she purrs there
She spins, spins, spins there
And that's all that a gumbie does
That's all that a gumbie does!

When...
the razzmatazz in the house has an end,
then the gumbie's paw is pulled towards hard work
In her opinion the cockroaches have a big demand for work,
by this, something will become of this lazy gang
The gang, for whom better pay would've been a woe,
now a pudibund and obedient brigade of scouts,
who's goals are good deeds, and nothing more!

Did you know: she even ordered them tattoos!

So to the gumbies, hurray, it seems
because it depends on them, how everything works at home
Three hurrays, three hurrays, three hurrays

Thank you, my sweets!
I have a Gumbie Cat in mind
    Her name is Jennyanydots.
Her coat is of the tabby kind
With tiger stripes and leopard spots.

All day she sits beneath the stairs
Or on the steps or on the mat:
She sits and sits and sits and sits
And that's what makes a Gumbie Cat,
That's what makes a Gumbie Cat.

But...
When the day's hustle and bustle is done
Then the Gumbie Cat's work is but hardly begun.
And when all the family's in bed and asleep,
She tucks up her skirts to the basement to creep.
She is deeply concerned with the ways of the mice -

Their behaviour's not good
And their manners not nice!
So when she has got them lined up on the matting,
She teaches them music, crocheting and tatting.

I have a Gumbie Cat in mind
Her name is Jennyanydots.
The curtain cord she likes to wind
And tie it into sailor-knots.

She sits upon the window-sill
Or anything that's smooth and flat:
She sits and sits and sits and sits
Aand that's what makes a Gumbie Cat.
That's what makes a Gumbie Cat!

But...
When the day's hustle and bustle is done,
Then the Gumbie Cat's work is but hardly begun.
She thinks that the cockroaches just need employment
To prevent them from idle and wanton destroyment
So she's formed, from that lot of disorderly louts,
A troop of well-disciplined helpful boy scouts,
With a purpose in life and a good deed to do

And she's even created a Beetles' Tattoo!

So for Old Gumbie Cats let us now give three cheers
On whom well-ordered households depend, it appears
Three cheers, three cheers, three cheers

Thank you, my dears!
